Trinity Exam
by Peter, Leonard and Enrico

On Tuesday 23rd of July some students are going to do the Trinity Exam. It’s an oral test which is categorized in twelve grades. The trinity Exam is divided from grade 1-6 in two parts and from 7-9 in three parts. The first two parts are the same, it’s the topic phase where you present your favourite topic (you can choose the topic). In the second part your examiner will have a conversation with you (you should lead the conversation) it’s very important to speak very fluently! The last part which is just for the grades 7-9 your examiner will read out some sentences and you have to ask the examiner questions about what happened; you have to find out as much as possible. You also can give your opinion and you also give him/her suggestions. When you have done one Trinity Exam for example grade 7 you can do the next higher grade in the next year. You can increase your Trinity Exam level every year.

Our opinion:
We think it’s a very good idea, because in this century it is very important to speak very good English. Now we have a great chance to improve our English skills. If you have a good Trinity Exam grade it is much easier to find later a good English job than without.

Preparing for the Trinity Exam Interview:

Interviewer: Leonard (L)
Interviewee: Peter (P)
L: How do you feel about your Trinity Exam on Tuesday?

P: I am a bit nervous, but I will do it easily.

L: How often have you practiced for the test?

P: I practiced every day in my Trinity class. We wrote our stories for the topic phase there.
L: How long will the test be?

P: There will be three phases and each phase is five minutes.

L: Thank you for the interview.

P: No problem.

Interview with Caro

L: How do you feel about your Trinity Exam on Tuesday?

Caro: I am very nervous.

L: How often have you practiced for the test?

Caro:  I’ve always practiced in the Trinity class, of course, and I also studied once more in my room.

L: How long will the test be?

Caro: I don’t know, I think about 10 to 15 minutes.

L: Thank you for the interview.

Caro:  No problem.

Interview with Nick, the Trinity exam class teacher:

L: How do you feel about your Trinity Exam class on Tuesday?

N: I feel very confident because everybody studied a lot.
I am relaxed about the exam, and also the students should be relaxed.
The students should think about the conversation in their heads before the go to the examiner.

L: How often have you been practicing with the students?

N: We practiced a lot, we practiced the writing, we were practicing the speaking, we were practicing the topic phase, the conversation phase and that again and again and again.

L: How long will the test be?

N: This depends on your level. All the students which get examed below level 7 have to do a five minutes topic phase and a five minutes conversations phase. That will be around 10 to 12 minutes with sentences at the start like ,,Hello, how are you?”. And for level seven eight and nine there is a third one, it is the interactive phase, so there will be about 15 or 16 minutes.

L: Thank you for the interview.

N: You’re welcome.
